Description
The Committee is in receipt of correspondence dated January 26, 2018 (received on January 30, 2018), from the Acting Mayor, transmitting the following:
1. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE AFFIRMATIVE ACTION ADVISORY COUNCIL FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with completed applications for the nominees. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nominations of Tapani Vuori (Reappoint), Lori Perreira, and Cynthia Sasada to the Affirmative Action Advisory Council for terms beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
2. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE ANIMAL CONTROL BOARD FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with completed applications for the nominees. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nominations of Aimee Anderson (Reappoint), Ronald Larsen, and Paul McCurdy to the Animal Control Board for terms beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
3. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE BOARD OF ETHICS FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with completed applications for the nominees. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nominations of William Curtis, Jr. and David Weiss to the Board of Ethics for terms beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
4. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE BOARD OF VARIANCES AND APPEALS FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with completed applications for the nominees. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nominations of Trisha Egge and Evelyn Kissen to the Board of Variances and Appeals for terms beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
5. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE BOARD OF WATER SUPPLY FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with completed applications for the nominees. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nominations of Dean Frampton and Joseph Aquino to the Board of Water Supply for terms beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
6. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF A MEMBER TO THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with a completed application for the nominee. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nomination of Marcus Merchasin to the Civil Service Commission for a term beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
7. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE COMMISSION ON CHILDREN AND YOUTH FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with completed applications for the nominees. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nominations of Clifford Libed (Reappoint), William Kinaka, and Maria Larrucea Solomon to the Commission on Children and Youth for terms beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
8. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE COST OF GOVERNMENT COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with completed applications for the nominees. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nominations of Sharron Courter (Reappoint), Norman Halip, Roger Alconcel (Lanai), and Gayla Ann Haliniak-Lloyd (Molokai) to the Cost of Government Commission for terms beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
9. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE COUNCIL ON AGING FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with completed applications for the nominees. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nominations of Katherine Smith, Susan Lussier, and Judith Mikami (Molokai) to the Council on Aging for terms beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
10. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF A MEMBER TO THE FIRE AND PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with a completed application for the nominee. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nomination of Kyle Ginoza to the Fire and Public Safety Commission for a term beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
11. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE LANAI PLANNING COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with completed applications for the nominees. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nominations of Shelly Preza (Reappoint - Designated Native Hawaiian Traditional and Customary Practices Expert), Chelsea Trevino, and Sherry Menze to the Lanai Planning Commission for terms beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
12. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE LIQUOR CONTROL ADJUDICATION BOARD FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with completed applications for the nominees. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nominations of Herman Nascimento and Richard Bergson to the Liquor Control Adjudication Board for terms beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
13. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE LIQUOR CONTROL COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with completed applications for the nominees. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nominations of Jonathan Todd and Alberta de Jetley (Lanai) to the Liquor Control Commission for terms beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
14. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE MAUI COUNTY CULTURAL RESOURCES COMMISSION,” along with completed applications for the nominees. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nominations of Yvette Celiz and Ian Bassford (Archaeologist) to the Maui County Cultural Resources Commission for terms beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
15. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE MAUI PLANNING COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with completed applications for the nominees. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nominations of Alalani Hill (Reappoint - Designated Native Hawaiian Traditional and Customary Practices Expert) and P. Denise La Costa to the Maui Planning Commission for terms beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
16. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE MOLOKAI PLANNING COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with completed applications for the nominees. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nominations of Jaylene Nuesca and William Moore to the Molokai Planning Commission for terms beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
17. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE POLICE COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with completed applications for the nominees. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nominations of Roger Dixon and Mark Redeker to the Police Commission for terms beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
18. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE PUBLIC WORKS COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with completed applications for the nominees. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nominations of Robert Johnson and Michael Silva (Civil Engineer) to the Public Works Commission for terms beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
19. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF A MEMBER TO THE REAL PROPERTY TAX REVIEW BOARD FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with a completed application for the nominee. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nomination of Michael Gurat to the Real Property Tax Review Board for a term beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
20. A proposed resolution entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE SALARY COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” along with completed applications for the nominees. The purpose of the proposed resolution is to approve or disapprove the Acting Mayor’s nominations of Gene Abbott and Peter Martin to the Salary Commission for terms beginning on April 1, 2018 and expiring on March 31, 2023.
Status
The Committee must approve or disapprove the nominations by March 31, 2018, or the nominations will be deemed approved. The Committee may consider whether to recommend adoption of the proposed resolutions, with or without revisions. The Committee may also consider other related action.
