RESOLUTION 26-11, PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT ON COUNTY COUNCIL VACANCIES IN OFFICE (GREAT-10(6))
Description
The Committee is in receipt of Resolution 26-11, entitled “PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO THE REVISED CHARTER OF THE COUNTY OF MAUI (1983), AS AMENDED, ON COUNTY COUNCIL VACANCIES IN OFFICE.” Resolution 26-11’s purpose is to place on the next General Election ballot the question of whether the Revised Charter of the County of Maui (1983), as amended, should be amended effective January 2, 2027, to require a special election to fill a council vacancy if the unexpired term of office is six months or more and, if the unexpired term is less than six months, to remove the time limit for the council to unilaterally appoint a person to fill the vacancy.
Status
The Committee may consider whether to recommend passage of Resolution 26-11 on first reading, with or without revisions. The Committee may also consider the filing of Resolution 26-11 and other related action.
