BILL 176 (2025), AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF LAND AND NATURAL RESOURCES ON THE MAINTENANCE OF PI‘IHOLO, OLINDA, AND ALA LUANA ROADS  (WAI-20)

 

Description

The Committee is in receipt of the following:

1.                     Bill 176 (2025), entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR OF THE COUNTY OF MAUI TO ENTER INTO A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH THE STATE OF HAWAII, DEPARTMENT OF LAND AND NATURAL RESOURCES RELATED TO PIIHOLO, OLINDA AND ALA LUANA ROADS.”  Bill 176’s purpose is to authorize the Mayor to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with the State Department of Land and Natural Resources, for an initial term of 10 years, to delineate the respective responsibilities of the State and County for the maintenance of Pi‘iholo, Olinda, and Ala Luana Roads, located in the vicinity of the Waihou Spring Forest Reserve.

2.                     An Amendment Summary Form, dated January 13, 2026, from the Committee Chair, with a proposed CD1 version of Bill 176 (2025), entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF LAND AND NATURAL RESOURCES ON PI‘IHOLO, OLINDA, AND ALA LUANA ROADS.”  The proposed CD1 version: 1) Amends the bill’s title; and 2) Makes nonsubstantive and technical revisions for clarity, consistency, and style.

 

Status

The Committee may consider whether to recommend passage of Bill 176 (2025) on first reading, with or without revisions.  The Committee may also consider the filing of Bill 176 (2025) and other related action.
