BILL 95 (2026), PROMOTING MAUI BUS RIDERSHIP AND EXPANDING THE FARE-FREE BUS PASS PROGRAM (ADEPT-9)
Description
The Committee is in receipt of Bill 95 (2026), entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTERS 11.03 AND 11.05 MAUI COUNTY CODE, ON PROMOTING MAUI BUS RIDERSHIP AND EXPANDING THE FARE-FREE BUS PASS PROGRAM.” Bill 95’s purpose is to promote Maui Bus ridership by expanding eligibility for the fare-free bus pass program and authorizing the Director of Transportation to suspend enforcement of fares for special events up to 14 days in a fiscal year. The bill is intended to advance the Climate Action and Resiliency Plan’s directive to “reduce residents’ and visitors’ dependence on single passenger vehicles.”
Status
The Committee may receive comments on the bill from the Department of Transportation and consider whether to recommend passage of Bill 95 (2026), with or without revisions. The Committee may also consider the filing of Bill 95 (2026) and other related action.
