BILL 86 (2023), RELATING TO MAUI WILDFIRES DEBRIS REMOVAL  (BFED-34)

 

Description

The Committee is in receipt of Bill 86 (2023), entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO MAUI WILDFIRES DEBRIS REMOVAL.”  Bill 86’s purpose is to establish standards and procedures for the removal of fire debris and hazard trees from properties damaged or destroyed in the August 2023 Maui wildfires.

 

Status

The Committee may consider whether to recommend passage of Bill 86 (2023) on first reading, with or without revisions.  The Committee may receive comments and answers to questions from the following resource persons: Cole Glenwright, Recovery Operations Section Chief, California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services; Tom Dunkelman, Incident Commander, United States Environmental Protection Agency; Dr. Cory Koger, Water Quality Program Manager and Chemist, United States Army Corps of Engineers; and representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the United States Coast Guard.  The Committee may also consider the filing of Bill 86 (2023) and other related action.
