RESOLUTION 26-85, PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT TO REMOVE THE ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE HAWAIʻI STATE MOTTO FROM THE PREAMBLE (GREAT-10(8))
Description
The Committee is in receipt of Resolution 26-85, entitled “PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO THE PREAMBLE OF THE REVISED CHARTER OF THE COUNTY OF MAUI (1983), AS AMENDED, REMOVING THE ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE HAWAIʻI STATE MOTTO.” Resolution 26-85’s purpose is to place on the next General Election ballot the question of whether the Revised Charter of the County of Maui (1983), as amended, should be amended effective upon passage, by removing the English translation of the Hawaiʻi State motto in the Maui County Charter Preamble, allowing the original phrase, “Ua mau ke ea o ka ʻāina i ka pono,” to stand on its own.
Status
The Committee may consider whether to recommend passage of Resolution 26-85 on first reading, with or without revisions. The Committee may also consider the filing of Resolution 26-85 and other related action.
