BILL 2 (2026), AMENDING SECTION 2.56.080, MAUI COUNTY CODE, RELATING TO SETTING THE SALARIES BY THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND ESTABLISHING NEW PAY SCALES (BFED-47)
Description
The Committee is in receipt of Bill 2 (2026), entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 2.56.080, MAUI COUNTY CODE, RELATING TO SETTING THE SALARIES BY THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND ESTABLISHING NEW PAY SCALES.” Bill 2’s purpose is to:
a. Authorize the Executive Director of the Board of Ethics, instead of the Council, to set the salaries of the Board of Ethics staff within the pay ranges and pay scale established in Section 2.56.080, Maui County Code;
b. Require the Board of Ethics to set the Executive Director’s annual salary, which may not exceed $227,091;
c. Authorize the Board of Ethics to hire additional attorneys, as needed, with annual salaries based on full years since the attorneys were admitted to the practice of law in any state or the District of Columbia;
d. Establish a pay scale for Board of Ethics paralegals; and
e. Authorize the Board of Ethics to hire staff part time, with annual pay calculated on a pro-rate basis based on set part-time hours.
Status
The Committee may consider whether to recommend passage of Bill 2 (2026) on first reading, with or without revisions. The Committee may also consider the filing of Bill 2 (2026) and other related action
