RESOLUTION 26-86, PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT TO ESTABLISH A COMPREHENSIVE STAGGERED TERM SYSTEM FOR MEMBERS OF THE COST OF GOVERNMENT COMMISSION (GREAT-10(9))
Description
The Committee is in receipt of Resolution 26-86, entitled “PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO THE REVISED CHARTER OF THE COUNTY OF MAUI (1983), AS AMENDED, TO ESTABLISH A COMPREHENSIVE STAGGERED TERM SYSTEM FOR MEMBERS OF THE COST OF GOVERNMENT COMMISSION.” Resolution 26-86’s purpose is to place on the next General Election ballot the question of whether the Revised Charter of the County of Maui (1983), as amended, should be amended effective July 1, 2027, to require that the terms of the existing and future members of the Cost of Government Commission be staggered to ensure continuity and prevent simultaneous expiration of multiple members’ terms.
Status
The Committee may consider whether to recommend passage of Resolution 26-86 on first reading, with or without revisions. The Committee may also consider the filing of Resolution 26-86 and other related action.
