Title

BILL 181 (2025), INCREASING THE AMOUNT OF THE HOME AND LONG-TERM RENTAL EXEMPTIONS FROM REAL PROPERTY TAX  (BFED-55)

 

Description

The Committee is in receipt of Bill 181 (2025), entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 3.48, MAUI COUNTY CODE, INCREASING THE AMOUNT OF THE HOME AND LONG-TERM RENTAL EXEMPTIONS FROM REAL PROPERTY TAX.” Bill 181’s purpose is to make the following changes for tax years beginning on or after July 1, 2026:

1.                      Increase the Home Exemption from $300,000 to $400,000;

2.                      Increase the Long-Term Rental Exemption from $200,000 to $300,000; and

3.                      Increase the combined exemption for properties that qualify for both a Home Exemption and a Long-Term Rental Exemption from $400,000 to $500,000.

 

Status

The Committee may consider whether to recommend passage of Bill 181 (2025) on first reading, with or without revisions.  The Committee may also consider the filing of Bill 181 (2025) and other related action.
