Description
The Committee is in receipt of BILL 141 (2024), entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 5.16, MAUI COUNTY CODE, RELATING TO TAXICABS.” Bill 141’s purposes are to: 1) increase the rates of fare taxicab drivers, owners, licensees, and operators may charge; 2) authorize an additional charge of $10 for the transport of motorized wheelchairs, large pet crates, bicycles, and surfboards; 3) authorize an airport pick-up fee of $5; 4) establish a flat rate of $20 when the distance traveled is three miles or less; and 5) provide a 20 percent discount to the fare for passengers not travelling together but agreeing to share the taxicab to the same destination or along the same route.
Status
The Committee may consider whether to recommend passage of Bill 141 (2024) on first reading, with or without revisions. The Committee may also consider the filing of Bill 141 (2024) and other related action.
