Description
Under Rule 7(B) of the Rules of the Council, the Committee intends to discuss matters relating to transitioning Kalawao County into Maui County, including Act 171 (2026), formerly Senate Bill 1432, SD2, HD2, CD1 (2025) and Resolution 21-190. The discussion may include anticipated operational responsibilities and potential County costs.
Status
The Committee may receive presentations and discuss matters relating to transitioning Kalawao County to Maui County, including Act 171 (2026), formerly Senate Bill 1432, SD2, HD2, CD1 (2025) and Resolution 21-190, anticipated operational responsibilities, potential County costs, and other related matters, with:
• Nancy Holman, Superintendent, Kalaupapa National Historical Park, National Park Service;
• Katie Lambert, Deputy to the Chair, Department of Hawaiian Home Lands;
• Ryan Kanaka‘ole, Chairperson and Director, Board and Department of Land and Natural Resources;
• Debbie Morikawa, Deputy Director, Health Resources Administration, State Department of Health;
• Dr. Diana Felton, Chief, Communicable Disease and Public Health Nursing Division, State Department of Health;
• Baron Chan, Chief, and Michael Casey, Planner, for the Hansen’s Disease Branch, Communicable Disease and Public Health Nursing Division, State Department of Health;
• Representatives from the Department of ‘Ōiwi Resources; and
• Representatives from the Department of Management.
The Committee may also discuss other related matters. No legislative action will be taken.
