BILL 85 (2026), AMENDING SECTIONS 19.64.040, 19.65.050, 19.510.020, 19.510.110, 19.520.030, AND 19.520.050, MAUI COUNTY CODE, REGARDING THE PUBLICATION OF PUBLIC HEARING NOTICES (HLU-15)
Description
The Committee is in receipt of the following:
1. Bill 85 (2026), entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 19.64.040, 19.65.050, 19.510.020, 19.510.110, 19.520.030, AND 19.520.050, MAUI COUNTY CODE, REGARDING THE PUBLICATION OF PUBLIC HEARING NOTICES.” Bill 85’s purpose is to amend the publishing requirements for public hearing notices in Sections 19.64.040, 19.65.050, 19.510.020, 19.510.110, 19.520.030, and 19.520.050, Maui County Code. The amendments would change the requirement that a hearing notice be published in a newspaper printed and issued at least twice weekly to a suitable publication which is generally circulated throughout the County.
2. Correspondence dated March 20, 2026, from the Planning Director, transmitting the Department’s report on the proposed bill, the planning commissions’ recommendations, and other related documents.
Status
The Committee may consider whether to recommend passage of Bill 85 (2026) on first reading, with or without revisions. The Committee may also consider the filing of Bill 85 (2026) and other related action.
