VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN ACT (VAWA) GRANT  (BF-161)

 

Description

The Committee is in receipt of the following:

1.                     County Communication 18-278, from the Chief of Police, transmitting a grant agreement between the County of Maui and the State of Hawaii, Department of the Attorney General, for the Combating Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program in Maui County, in the amount of $73,840, which included $55,380 in Federal Funds and the required 25 percent County match of $18,460.

2.                     Correspondence dated October 4, 2018, from the Chief of Police, transmitting a proposed bill entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR OF THE COUNTY OF MAUI TO ENTER INTO AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF HAWAII, DEPARTMENT OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, REGARDING GRANT OF FUNDS FOR THE STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN FORMULA GRANT PROGRAM.”  The purpose of the proposed bill is to authorize the Mayor to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with the State of Hawaii, Department of the Attorney General, granting to the Department of Police funding for the Stop Violence Against Women Formula Grant Program for the term April 1, 2018 through March 1, 2019, in the amount of $55,380.  The County of Maui is required to provide matching funds of $18,460.

 

Status

The Committee may consider whether to recommend passage of the proposed bill on first reading, with or without revisions.  The Committee may also consider the filing of County Communication 18-278 and other related action.
