SHORT-TERM RENTAL HOMES IN THE PAIA-HAIKU COMMUNITY PLAN AREA (PC-21)
Description
The Committee is in receipt of the following:
1. County Communication 18-52, from the Planning Director, transmitting the following:
a. A proposed bill entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE PA`IA-HA`IKU COMMUNITY PLAN RELATING TO VISITOR ACCOMMODATIONS.” The purpose of the bill is to update the Paia-Haiku Community Plan (1995), consistent with Ordinance 3941 (2012), by conditionally allowing Short-Term Rental Homes in the Community Plan Area.
b. A proposed bill entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO SHORT-TERM RENTAL HOMES IN THE PAIA-HAIKU COMMUNITY PLAN AREA.” The purpose of the bill is to amend Chapter 19.65, Maui County Code, to provide that Short-Term Rental Home permits shall not be issued for properties abutting the shoreline in the Paia-Haiku Community Plan Area, consistent with the Community Plan.
2. Correspondence dated February 28, 2018, from the Planning Director, relating to additional information on visitor accommodations in the Paia-Haiku Community Plan Area.
3. Correspondence dated March 7, 2018, from the Planning Director, relating to the legislative history of Ordinance 3941 (2012), which created Chapter 19.65, Maui County Code, Short-Term Rental Homes.”
4. Correspondence dated May 4, 2018, from the Planning Director, relating to additional information on permitted short-term rental homes in the Paia-Haiku Community Plan area.
5. Correspondence dated July 5, 2018, from the Planning Director, relating to the Department of Planning’s plans for processing current and future applications for Short-Term Rental Home permits in the Paia-Haiku Community Plan Area.
Status
The Committee may consider whether to recommend passage of the proposed bills on first reading, with or without revisions. The Committee may also consider the filing of County Communication 18-52 and other related action.
