SMOKING PROHIBITIONS  (PEA-13)

 

Description

The Committee is in receipt of the following:

1.                     County Communication 15-255, from Presiding Officer Pro Tempore Michael P. Victorino, transmitting a proposed bill to amend Chapters 8.20 and 13.04, Maui County Code, relating to smoking prohibitions.

2.                     Correspondence dated October 9, 2018, from Councilmember Elle Cochran, transmitting a proposed bill entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 8.20, MAUI COUNTY CODE, RELATING TO SMOKING.”  The purpose of the proposed bill is to expand the definition of “smoke” or “smoking” to include any lighted or heated tobacco product or plant product intended for inhalation, and the use of an electronic smoking device, and to make that expanded definition applicable to the designated areas in which smoking is prohibited.

 

Status

The Committee may consider whether to recommend passage of the proposed bill in paragraph 2 above on first reading, with or without revisions.  The Committee may also consider the filing of County Communication 15-255 and other related action.
