Title
PROHIBITING COMMERCIAL OCEAN RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY AT HANAKAOʻO BEACH PARK (EACP-27)
Description
The Committee is in receipt of County Communication 19-195, from Councilmember Tamara Paltin, transmitting a proposed bill entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 13.04A.290, MAUI COUNTY CODE, TO PROHIBIT COMMERCIAL OCEAN RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY AT HANAKO`O BEACH PARK.” The purpose of the proposed bill is to amend section 13.04A.290, Maui County Code, to prohibit commercial ocean recreational activity at Hanakoʻo Beach Park, Lahaina, Maui, Hawaiʻi, also known as “Canoe Beach,” because commercial ocean recreational activity has proven to be increasingly incompatible with the growing need to house recreational and cultural canoe activities at the beach park.
Status
The Committee may receive a presentation and status update from the Department of Parks and Recreation relating to the proposed bill and discuss the matter. The Committee may also consider whether to recommend passage of the proposed bill on first reading, with or without revisions, and consider the filing of County Communication 19-195 and other related action.
