Title

VISITABILITY STANDARDS IN THE COUNTY’S BUILDING CODE  (WAI-12)

Description

The Committee received the following:

1.                     County Communication 18-198, from Councilmember Elle Cochran, transmitting a proposed resolution to urge the Department of Public Works to propose the incorporation of visitability standards into the County’s Building Code for new residential construction, analyze the feasibility of incorporating such visitability standards into the County’s Building Code, and report back to the Council on the Department’s findings and recommendations for appropriate legislation.

2.                     Correspondence dated July 12, 2019, from the Chair of the Committee, transmitting a revised proposed resolution entitled “URGING THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS TO EVALUATE THE INCORPORATION OF VISITABILITY STANDARDS FOR NEW RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION IN THE COUNTY’S BUILDING CODE.”  The revised proposed resolution provides additional demographic and other background information, defines the term “visitability,” modifies the six proposed visitability standards, deletes the clauses urging the Department to conduct a feasibility analysis and report back to the Council, and incorporates other amendments to the resolution.

Status

The Committee may recommend adoption of the revised proposed resolution, with or without further revisions.  The Committee may also recommend filing County Communication 18-198 and take other related action.
