INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY FOR THE COOPERATIVE WATER RESOURCE MONITORING PROGRAM (WAI-56)
Description
The Committee is in receipt of County Communication 19-375, from the Director of Water Supply, transmitting a proposed bill entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR OF THE COUNTY OF MAUI TO ENTER INTO AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY, PACIFIC ISLANDS WATER SCIENCE CENTER, UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR (COOPERATIVE WATER-RESOURCE MONITORING PROGRAM).” The purpose of the proposed bill is to authorize the continuation of the cooperative water resource monitoring program, during the period from October 1, 2019 to September 30, 2020. Since the 1980s, this program has collected water resource data from selected rainfall, streamflow, and groundwater monitoring stations throughout the County in order to evaluate the status and trends of surface-water and groundwater resources in the County of Maui.
Status
The Committee may receive a presentation from the Department of Water Supply and discuss the matter. The Committee may also consider recommending passage of the proposed bill on first reading, with or without revisions. The Committee may also consider the filing of County Communication 19-375 and other related action.
