Title

TRANSIENT VACATION RENTALS IN THE APARTMENT, LIGHT INDUSTRIAL, AND HEAVY INDUSTRIAL DISTRICTS  (PSLU-59)

 

Description The Committee is in receipt of the following:

1.                     County Communication 20-246, from the Planning Director, transmitting a proposed bill to prevent the conversion of long-term use dwelling units into transient vacation rentals in the apartment, light industrial, and heavy industrial districts, and to prohibit new stand-alone apartment units in the light industrial and heavy industrial districts.

2.                     Correspondence dated June 26, 2020, from the Planning Director, transmitting a revised proposed bill entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTERS 19.12, 19.24, 19.26 AND 19.37, MAUI COUNTY CODE, RELATING TO TRANSIENT VACATION RENTALS IN THE APARTMENT DISTRICTS AND INDUSTRIAL DISTRICTS AND DWELLING UNITS IN THE INDUSTRIAL DISTRICTS.”  The purpose of the revised proposed bill is to prevent the conversion of long-term use dwelling units into transient vacation rentals in the apartment, light industrial, and heavy industrial districts, and to prohibit new stand-alone apartment units in the light industrial and heavy industrial districts.

3.                     Correspondence dated August 20, 2020, from the Committee Chair, transmitting proposed amendments to the bill noted in paragraph 2.

 

Status

The Committee may consider whether to recommend passage of the revised proposed bill in paragraph 2 on first reading, with or without further revisions.  The Committee may also consider the filing of County Communication 20-246 and other related action.
