Title

BREAK FREE FROM PLASTIC POLLUTION ACT  (CARE-48)

 

Description

The Committee is in receipt of the following:

1.                     County Communication 21-223, from Council Chair Alice L. Lee, relating to the Break Free from Plastic Pollution Act.

2.                     Correspondence dated June 10, 2021, from Committee Chair Kelly Takaya King, transmitting a proposed resolution entitled “REQUESTING THE STATE’S CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION TO SUPPORT REDUCING THE PRODUCTION AND USE OF CERTAIN SINGLE-USE PLASTIC PRODUCTS.”  The purposes of the proposed resolution are to support the Break Free from Plastic Pollution Act, pending before the 117th Congress as Senate Bill 984 (2021) and House Bill 2238 (2021); and to urge the State’s Congressional delegation to also support the Break Free from Plastic Pollution Act.

 

Status

The Committee may receive a presentation or remarks from Lauren Blickley, Hawai‘i Regional Manager, Surfrider Foundation, relating to the Break Free from Plastic Pollution Act (2021), single-use plastics’ negative impact on the natural environment, and the proposed resolution.  The Committee may also discuss related matters and consider whether to recommend adoption of the proposed resolution, with or without revisions, the filing of County Communication 21-223, and other related action.
