KULEANA LAND EXEMPTIONS  (BFED-80)

 

Description

The Committee is in receipt of the following:

1.                     County Communication 20-113, from Council Vice-Chair Keani N.W. Rawlins-Fernandez, transmitting a proposed bill entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 3.48, MAUI COUNTY CODE, RELATING TO KULEANA LAND.”  The purpose of the proposed bill is to amend Chapter 3.48, Maui County Code, to exempt portions of real property designated as kuleana land from paying delinquent taxes and penalties under certain conditions.

2.                     Correspondence dated July 29, 2021, from Committee Chair Keani N.W. Rawlins-Fernandez, transmitting a proposed bill entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 3.48, MAUI COUNTY CODE, RELATING TO KULEANA TAX EXEMPTIONS.”  The purpose of the proposed bill is to add Kuleana Act government grant land to Section 3.48.554, Maui County Code, clarifying the definition of an owner who is a lineal descendent, and allowing for retroactive application of the exemption to June 30, 2011 through the tax year ended June 30, 2021.

 

Status

The Committee may consider whether to recommend passage of the proposed bills on first reading, with or without revisions.  The Committee may also consider whether to recommend the filing of County Communication 20-113, and other related action.
