Title

RESOLUTION 22-71 AND RESOLUTION 22-74, AIRCRAFT NOISE AND FLIGHT PATHS OVER MAUI COUNTY  (IT-72)

 

Description

The Committee is in receipt of the following:

1.                     County Communication 21-420, from Councilmember Michael J. Molina, relating to aircraft noise and flight paths over Ha‘ikū and Pā‘ia.

2.                     County Communication 21-479, from Councilmember Kelly Takaya King, relating to aircraft noise and flight paths over Mā‘alaea and South Maui.

3.                     Resolution 22-71, entitled “URGING THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION TO MORE EFFECTIVELY REGULATE HELICOPTER OPERATIONS IN MAUI COUNTY.”  Resolution 22-71’s purpose is to urge the Federal Aviation Administration to more effectively regulate helicopter operations in Maui County.

4.                     Resolution 22-74, entitled “URGING THE STATE CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION TO URGE THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION TO ESTABLISH A COMMUNITY ROUNDTABLE ON AIRCRAFT NOISE WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND THE MAYOR.”  Resolution 21-74’s purpose is to request the assistance of Hawai‘i’s Congressional delegation to have the FAA hear the citizens’ concerns and work to address the noise complaints and urges the State Department of Transportation and the Mayor to independently or jointly establish a community roundtable on aircraft noise with the Federal Aviation Administration.

5.                     Correspondence dated March 16, 2022, from Committee Chair Yuki Lei K. Sugimura, transmitting a proposed amendment.  The purpose of the proposed amendment is to amend the title and body of Resolution 22-74 to incorporate references to the Hawaii Airports and Flying Safety Guide noise abatement areas.

 

Status

The Committee may consider whether to recommend adoption of Resolution 22-71, with or without revisions, and Resolution 22-74, with or without revisions.  The Committee may also consider the filing of Resolution 22-71 and Resolution 22-74, and other related action.
