BILL 126 (2022), RELATING TO AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH (GREAT-63)

 

Description

The Committee is in receipt of Bill 126 (2022), entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR OF THE COUNTY OF MAUI TO ENTER INTO AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF HAWAII, DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH.”  Bill 126’s purpose is to authorize the Mayor to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the State of Hawaii, Department of Health to provide the Department of Health with access to data from autopsy and police investigative reports related to deaths occurring in Maui County from suicides, homicides, accidental drug overdose, and deaths for which the cause or circumstances were undetermined.  The Agreement, attached as Exhibit “1,” notes the Department of Health will provide funding to the Maui Police Department for the purpose of establishing a secure process for the distribution of the Records.

 

Status

The Committee may consider whether to recommend passage of Bill 126 (2022) on first reading, with or without revisions.  The Committee may also consider the filing of Bill 126 (2022) and other related action.
