NOMINATIONS TO BOARDS, COMMITTEES, AND COMMISSIONS (RESOLUTIONS 23-47 THROUGH 23-67, VARIOUS)  (GREAT-2(1))

 

Description

The Committee is in receipt of correspondence dated February 7, 2023, from Council Chair Alice L. Lee, transmitting a letter from the Mayor, dated and received on January 31, 2023, transmitting the following:

1.                     Resolution 23-47, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO AFFIRMATIVE ACTION ADVISORY COUNCIL FOR the COUNTY OF MAUI,” with completed applications for the nominees.  Resolution 23-47’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nominations of Nicholas John Severson, Anita Segovia Barvin, and Melissa Navarro Will to the Affirmative Action Advisory Council for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

2.                     Resolution 23-48, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO ANIMAL CONTROL BOARD FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with completed applications for the nominees.  Resolution 23-48’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nominations of Laureen Anne Kaneta, Philip Andrew Raya, Jr., and Kevin K. Keʻa to the Animal Control Board for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2026.

3.                     Resolution 23-49, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO BOARD OF ETHICS FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with completed applications for the nominees.  Resolution 23-49’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nominations of Michael Alexander Lilly and Carol Agar to the Board of Ethics for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

4.                     Resolution 23-50, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO BOARD OF VARIANCES AND APPEALS FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with completed applications for the nominees.  Resolution 23-50’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nominations of Deborah C. Vial and John Joseph Helly to the Board of Variances and Appeals for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

5.                     Resolution 23-51, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO BOARD OF WATER SUPPLY FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with completed applications for the nominees.  Resolution 23-51’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nominations of Edwin E. Lindsey III (Reappoint) and Nichole Inouye-Nohara to the Board of Water Supply for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

6.                     Resolution 23-52, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBER TO CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with a completed application for the nominee.  Resolution 23-52’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nomination of Edward James Rickord to the Civil Service Commission for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

7.                     Resolution 23-53, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO COMMISSION ON CHILDREN AND YOUTH FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with completed applications for the nominees.  Resolution 23-53’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nominations of Alma B. Tassi (Reappoint), Monique Raquel Bolo, and Ericka Ashley Chavez to the Commission on Children and Youth for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

8.                     Resolution 23-54, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO COST OF GOVERNMENT COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with completed applications for the nominees.  Resolution 23-54’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nominations of Evan Purcell Dust (Reappoint), Cameron James Dexter, Roger Clapp, and Steven Robert Knapp to the Cost of Government Commission for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

9.                     Resolution 23-55, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO COUNCIL ON AGING FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with completed applications for the nominees.  Resolution 23-55’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nominations of Deldrine Kauinohea Manera (Reappoint), Edward Romson (Reappoint), and Elaine Slavinsky (Reappoint) to the Council on Aging for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

10.                     Resolution 23-56, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF A MEMBER TO FIRE AND PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with a completed application for the nominee.  Resolution 23-56’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nomination of Luke Makani Bailey to the Fire and Public Safety Commission for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

11.                     Resolution 23-57, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF A MEMBER TO HANA ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with a completed application for the nominee.  Resolution 23-57’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nomination of William Matthew Keiley to the Hāna Advisory Committee for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

12.                     Resolution 23-58, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO LĀNA‘I PLANNING COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with completed applications for the nominees.  Resolution 23-58’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nominations of Negus Manna (Reappoint), Jay S. Margulies, and Michelle June Fujie to the Lāna‘i Planning Commission for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

13.                     Resolution 23-59, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO LIQUOR CONTROL ADJUDICATION BOARD FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with completed applications for the nominees.  Resolution 23-59’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nominations of Kaulana Mossman (Reappoint) and John D. Kim to the Liquor Control Adjudication Board for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

14.                     Resolution 23-60, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO LIQUOR CONTROL COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with completed applications for the nominees.  Resolution 23-60’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nominations of Setsuko Regina Gormley and Dean Kimo Frampton to the Liquor Control Commission for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

15.                     Resolution 23-61, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO MAUI COUNTY CULTURAL RESOURCES COMMISSION,” with completed applications for the nominees.  Resolution 23-61’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nominations of Andree-Michelle Conley-Kapoi (Reappoint) and Theodore W.K. Awana, Jr. to the Maui County Cultural Resources Commission for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

16.                     Resolution 23-62, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO MAUI PLANNING COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with completed applications for the nominees.  Resolution 23-62’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nominations of Heather Ann Wells and Sheila Walker to the Maui Planning Commission for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

17.                     Resolution 23-63, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO MOLOKAI PLANNING COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with completed applications for the nominees.  Resolution 23-63’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nominations of Shannon Keaupuni Kaʻahanui and John R. Sabas to the Molokai Planning Commission for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

18.                     Resolution 23-64, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO POLICE COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with completed applications for the nominees.  Resolution 23-64’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nominations of Frank Tam and William K. Richardson to the Police Commission for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

19.                     Resolution 23-65, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO PUBLIC WORKS COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with completed applications for the nominees.  Resolution 23-65’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nominations of Laureen Anne Kaneta (Reappoint) and Matthew Schroeder to the Public Works Commission for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

20.                     Resolution 23-66, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF A MEMBER TO REAL PROPERTY TAX REVIEW BOARD FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with a completed application for the nominee.  Resolution 23-66’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nomination of Robert John Cortesi to the Real Property Tax Review Board for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

21.                     Resolution 23-67, entitled “APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO SALARY COMMISSION FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI,” with completed applications for the nominees.  Resolution 23-67’s purpose is to approve or disapprove the Mayor’s nominations of Janelle Lynn Ragusa and William M. Curtis, Jr. to the Salary Commission for a term beginning on April 1, 2023, and expiring on March 31, 2028.

 

Status

The Council must approve or disapprove the nominations listed above by March 31, 2023, or the nominations will be deemed approved.  The Committee may consider whether to recommend adoption of the proposed resolutions, with or without revisions.  The Committee may also consider other related action.
