Title

BILL 4 (2023), CONVERTING APARTMENT BUILDINGS FROM TRANSIENT VACATION RENTAL USE TO LONG-TERM RESIDENTIAL USE  (DRIP-1)

 

Description

The Committee is in receipt of the following:

1.                     Bill 4 (2023), entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 19.12, MAUI COUNTY CODE, RELATING TO CONVERTING APARTMENT BUILDINGS FROM TRANSIENT VACATION RENTAL USE TO LONG-TERM RESIDENTIAL USE.”  Bill 4’s purpose is to allow property owners of buildings located in the Apartment District to permanently convert property from transient vacation rental use to long-term residential use by filing a declaration with the State of Hawaiʻi Bureau of Conveyances and providing notice to the County.

2.                     Correspondence dated February 6, 2023, from the County Clerk, transmitting a letter from the Department of Planning, dated December 29, 2022, relating to Bill 4 (2023).

3.                     Correspondence dated March 1, 2023, from the Department of the Corporation Counsel, transmitting a revised proposed version of Bill 4 (2023), entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 19.12, MAUI COUNTY CODE, RELATING TO CONVERTING APARTMENT BUILDINGS FROM TRANSIENT VACATION RENTAL USE TO LONG-TERM RESIDENTIAL USE.”  The purpose of the proposed bill is to allow property owners of buildings located in the Apartment District to convert real property voluntarily and permanently from transient vacation rental use to long-term residential use by filing a declaration with the State of Hawaiʻi Bureau of Conveyances and providing notice to the County.

4.                     Correspondence dated March 2, 2023, from Committee Chair Tamara Paltin, transmitting informational documents related to Bill 4 (2023).

 

Status

The Committee may consider whether to recommend passage of Bill 4 (2023) on first reading, with or without revisions.  The Committee may also consider the filing of Bill 4 (2023) and other related action.
