PROPOSED CD1 VERSION OF BILL 13 (2023), RELATING TO RENAMING PUAMANA BEACH PARK TO WAIANUʻUKOLE BURIAL PRESERVE (LĀHAINĀ)  (WAI-2)

 

Description

The Committee is in receipt of the following:

1.                     Bill 13 (2023), entitled “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 12.40, MAUI COUNTY CODE, RELATING TO NAMES OF PUBLIC FACILITIES DESIGNATED.”  Bill 13’s purpose is to rename Puamana Beach Park to Waiahiokole Burial Preserve, Lāhainā, Maui, Hawaiʻi, as recommended by the Public Works Commission and the Maui County Cultural Resources Commission.

2.                     Correspondence from County Clerk, dated February 21, 2023, transmitting correspondence from the Acting Director of Public Works, dated February 2, 2023, with the application for a name change and supporting documentation.

3.                     An Amendment Summary Form dated June 27, 2023, from Committee Chair Cook with a proposed CD1 version of Bill 13 (2023).  The proposed CD1 version amends the bill’s title and park’s name, and corrects the bill’s reference date and tax map key.

 

Status

The Committee may consider whether to recommend passage of Bill 13 (2023) or Bill 13, CD1 (2023) on first reading, with or without further revisions.  The Committee may also consider the filing of Bill 13 (2023) and other related action.
